Julia "Corie" Kathryn Galusha

On Sunday morning, September 20th, Julia "Corie" Kathryn Galusha was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born in Meridian, Mississippi on January 22nd, 1951, Corie's early years were filled with adventure and change. At age five, she and her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, setting the stage for a journey that would take her through Avondale, New Orleans, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she completed high school. Corie received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia and later earned her Master's degree in Human Resources from Georgia State University. Following her graduation, she remained in Atlanta for the rest of her life.

Corie enjoyed a lengthy and diverse 31‑year career with SunTrust Bank (Trust Company Bank at the time of her hiring). Over the decades, she contributed her talents in branch banking, loan review, human resources, and marketing before retiring in 2009.

Corie's faith in God was immeasurable. She was a central part of her beloved church family at North Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, participated enthusiastically in Bible studies, and eagerly joined a wide variety of social activities. A true adventurer at heart, she parasailed in Naples, Florida, floated over the Grand Canyon in a hot‑air balloon, and even skydived.

Family and friendships brought Corie her greatest joy. She cherished time spent with her two brothers, David and Kevin, her nieces and nephews, and their growing families. Corie also had an abundance of dear friends across many circles. Each year, she and her closest friends from her college days at UGA gathered to nurture the sisterhood they held so precious. Her longtime neighbors at 10 26th St NW adored her, just as her new friends at Kings Bridge Independent Living quickly came to adore her as well.

Corie was an avid reader - highly intelligent, deeply curious, and passionate about learning, seeking truth, and following her heart. She was a remarkable communicator, gifted with an innate ability to understand people. She listened earnestly, remembered thoughtfully, prayed faithfully, and loved wholeheartedly.

Corie occasionally expressed her peaceful acceptance of death. She would joyfully remark that once she was gone, her worries would be gone forever and she would be dancing with Jesus. May those words bring comfort to her family and friends.

Corie did not desire a formal funeral and expressed her wish for a simple, understated remembrance. Her family and church community are still considering how best to honor her life. Please be patient as these details come together.
