Kenneth Wayne Simonton, age 79, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, in Decatur, Georgia. Born on October 15, 1946, in Rome, Georgia, Kenneth was the beloved son of the late Norman and Virginia Simonton.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Angela Chadwick Simonton, whom he married on April 1, 1989. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Lynn Varian (Barry), and his brother, Gregg Simonton (Sharon); along with his cherished nieces, Megan Carmody and Sofia Simonton. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. After his service, he earned a bachelor's degree in geology from the University of West Georgia, which led to a lifelong and respected career in the field.

He was a licensed professional geologist with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division. There, he served as a project manager in the Environmental Monitoring and Corrective Action Program and coordinated the Georgia Landfill Operator Certification Training Workshop. Previously, he worked for both Moreland Altobelli and the State of Georgia, dedicating ten years to each organization.

A passionate and active member of the Atlanta Geological Society, Kenneth was instrumental in leading training workshops for professional geologists. He took great pride in his work and the many accolades he received over the years.

Kenneth was known for his laid-back nature, sharp wit, and generous heart. He had a deep love for music, photography, and especially cars-one of his greatest passions. He had an extraordinary ability to make others feel at ease, like lifelong friends, and was always quick to share a laugh.

Kenneth Simonton was an honorable man who lived with integrity, warmth, and compassion. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the joy he brought, and the enduring love of his family and friends.
