LaVerne Maxine Bowden, 80, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones at Odyssey Hospice in Decatur, Georgia on August 24, 2012. She is now in God's House and singing with the Angels. LaVerne was born on March 27, 1932 in Monticello, Arkansas to the late Claude and Claire Bowden. LaVerne now joins them in Heaven along with her brothers and sisters. LaVerne graduated from the University of Arkansas-Monticello. At Arkansas, she was an All-American in basketball and softball. She will always be a true Hog and Bulldog. Laverne's loss is mourned by her partner of 36 years, Elaine Corley and a colossal of family and friends, which are too numerous to name. Our sweet LaVerne was known as a partner, mother, God-mother, sister, aunt, daughter, confidante, colleague, mentor, friend but most importantly, "A Child of God" . LaVerne taught us life lessons on how to be respectful, loving and faithful. LaVerne always met you with open arms, a smile and a love that made you feel special. LaVerne is and will always be a light that will continue to shine in the lives of everyone who knew her. The family will receive friends at A.S. Turner and Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033 on August 31, 2012 from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 5365 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, Georgia 30083 on September 1, 2012 at 11:00 am.
