Leon Lamar Kitchens

Leon Lamar Kitchens, Jr., age 85, passed away on March 10th, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Ann Able Kitchens. He is survived by 3 daughters, Clarice K. Jones, Becky Smith (Rick), Carolyn Kitchens Haynes; 8 grandchildren, Hillary, Dalton and Lucas Jones, Lizzy, Riley and Robert Smith and Joshua and Garrett Haynes; and his sister Charlotte Maugans. He graduated from Decatur Boys High, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was an Aircraft Machinist at Lockheed Aircraft Corp. for 40+ years. He was a long-time member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple. He was a piper and had been active in several bagpipe bands in the Atlanta area. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons with a graveside service following at Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions made be made to the Dekalb History Center and the Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
