Lois Cornelia Woodley

October 21, 1924 — February 22, 2015

Lois J. Woodley, age 90 of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015. She was a Southern lady in every way, very strong in the face of adversity and life's challenges. Lois, although a bit shy and reserved, was kind to everyone she met. She was a loving sister, mother, aunt, in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was called "Munna" by her grandchildren. Lois was born on "the Home Place" (also known as C. C. Johnson Dairy, later Flat Shoals Dairy). Lois attended the Atlanta College of Art and headed the Addressing Department of Rich's Department Store. She also did some modeling for Rich's advertising department, and was what was called a "Rich's Girl" during the Second World War, where the Rich's Newsletter would be sent to soldiers overseas. Lois and her husband, Sam met at the Varsity restaurant in Atlanta. They married and went on to have five children, who survive them today: Samuel F. Woodley, Jr., Elizabeth Ann Wheelock, Nancy Cornelia Woodley, Joshua Swain Woodley and Daniel Christopher Woodley. Lois is also survived by grandchildren, Benjamin, Margaret, Daniel, Robert, James, Colby, Leah and McKenna and great-grandchildren, Kayla and Dylan. Lois' husband, who preceded her in death, died when they were both only 45 years old. Samuel Francis Woodley, Sr. was the District Sales Manager for the Southeast for the company he first started to work for after graduating from GA Tech, ACME & Interlake Steel Company. Lois was also preceded in death by her brothers, Nathan Johnson, Brooks C. Johnson, Roy A. Johnson and her sister, Elizabeth F. Johnson. Her youngest brother, Harold C. Johnson, Sr. survives her. Lois had an "adopted sister", Sams only sister, her sister-in-law, Virginia Woodley Asby Chapman with whom she was extremely close and enjoyed Williamsburg, Virgina and exploring antique shops with. As a child Lois attended Ousley Methodist Church in Decatur and after marriage attended Panthersville Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28 at 1:30 PM in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
