Lois Stephens of Atlanta GA passed away peacefully on 10/16/2022. Affectionately known as Mimi by her family, she was known to say “Oh my stars!” when she was surprised by something.
She was born in Richmond Virginia and moved to Atlanta when she married her husband Roy, who preceded her in death on January 27, 2021. Before she started a career with the IRS, Lois was a homemaker filling her days with crafts, cooking, decorating, and sewing. During those years, she also worked in advertising as a model for Buick, Reynolds Aluminum, and she modeled fashion at the Atlanta Apparel Mart. Lois thoroughly enjoyed her career with the IRS and retired after 25 years of service. Following retirement, she volunteered for the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and served as a pink lady at a local hospital.
Lois always enjoyed dancing and shortly after her retirement, she joined a senior tap dance group. Dancing was an important part of Lois and Roy's life and their 70+ year romance; most nights you could find them dancing through the kitchen.
Lois also traveled to many parts of the world, one of her most enjoyable trips was a six week tour to several countries in Europe, including Greece and Turkey, a 50th wedding anniversary gift from her daughters Kathy and Victoria. She had six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much. She was also an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority Alpha Sigma Nu chapter for many years, where she held many offices and chaired several committees.
There will be a family graveside service held in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 English Ave. 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
