Major Carolyn A. Walters

Major Carolyn A. Reeves Walters was born on June 11, 1943, in Albany, GA to D.S. & Effie Reeves, third generation Salvationist. She has six sisters and one brother. She and her sister Evelyn met the Army at the age of eleven, when they went to Sunbeams and loved it so much, they continued to go back. She attended the corps in Albany and was very active in the corps with Guards, Sunday School Teacher, Young People Legion, band, songsters, open air, visitation, and many other programs offered at the corps. In band she played alto and in songsters was quite a singer with her soprano voice. It was January 1956, that she knelt at the penitent form in Albany and accepted the Lord. In March she was enrolled as a Junior Soldier and was very active in the corps since then. It was in 1957 at Youth Councils that she felt the call into full-time ministry. It was when she arrived back to her home corps that Major Bowman giving her encouragement in the direction of officership and helped her to prepare her to enter training. She applied to attend training at the age of 18 with the "Heroes of the Faith" Session with her twin sister Evelyn and Commissioned on May 31, 1964. Carolyn was appointed to Atlanta Clark-Howell, Toccoa and Athens, GA.

On April 11, 1970, Carolyn married Ben Walters and together they served in Savannah, Elberton, Atlanta (Lakewood) and Waycross, GA; Sherman, Dallas (Oak Cliff) and Galveston, TX; Harrisonburg, VA; Oklahoma City (Citadel), OK, Gadsden, AL and Orangeburg, SC, with serving actively for over 34 years. It was during their appointment in Orangeburg that Ben found out he had bone cancer which led to their early retirement in 1997. Even in retirement they remained faithful in serving the Lord. After Ben was Promoted to Glory in 1999, Carolyn went back to work teaching first grade at Lacy Elementary School in Raleigh, NC.

A favorite memory by one of her children was to see her laughing with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband Ben, Promoted to Glory on August 16, 1999. Carolyn is survived by her children and their spouses, Ben Jr. (Rhonda) Walters, Charles (Elmarie) Walters, Monica (Doug) Moore, and Roni Walters; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and her siblings, twin sister Evelyn Reynolds, Lynne Cox, Grace Anderson, Diane Shores, Buddy Reeves, and Jean Nelms and family, Robyn Walters & Major Wanda Busby and many more.

Flowers may be received at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home Decatur, GA, on March 3rd or at The Salvation Army N. Druid Hills, Atlanta, GA. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at The Salvation Army Atlanta Temple Corps, 2090 N. Druid Hills Rd, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am. Committal service will follow at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta.
