Malcolm Mather, 87, passed away of natural causes on October 17, 2026, in Decatur, Georgia.
Born April 12, 1939 in Amherst, Ohio, to Adrian and Margaret (Smith) Mather, Malcolm was always quick to mention that it snowed on that spring day! After graduating from Lorain High School, Malcolm enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1957 to 1961 as a Senior Airman in Germany and Crete, and then served two additional years in the Air Force Reserves.
After a long career in banking, Malcolm retired to South Carolina, where he lived for many years enjoying his woodland home, which he called "Happy Acres." An avid Cleveland Indians fan and train buff, Malcolm spent hours sharing his enthusiasm for baseball and vast knowledge of trains (both model-size and life-size).
Malcolm is survived by daughters Adrienne Mather of Decatur and Stephanie Johnson of Vermilion, Ohio; son-in-law Kurt Johnson; and grandsons Foster and Kole Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 25 years, Judith (Rohrbach) Mather; his parents; and his brother, David Mather.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1410 Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia 30307. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 North Ridge Road, Amherst, Ohio. Memorial donations can be made in Malcolm's name to St. John's Lutheran Church or to an animal shelter of the donor's choosing.
