Marcia Ann "Marcy" Revelez

Marcia Ann "Marcy" Revelez passed away on June 18, 2026, in Atlanta, GA, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 53, born May 16, 1973, in Andrews, Texas.

Marcy's heart belonged to her two beloved dogs, Max and Duncan, who were never far from her side. She was a woman of many passions - an avid reader, a gifted painter, knitter, and cross-stitcher, and someone with an enduring fascination with natural history and mammals. A teacher at heart, she loved sharing what she knew with anyone curious enough to ask.

Marcy built her career around the preservation of natural history, serving as collection manager at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and the Angelo State Natural History Collection. She later brought that same expertise to federal public health work, leading the Biorepository Team at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and overseeing the stewardship of the CDC's valuable sample collections - a career that bridged museum science and biobanking in a way few others could claim.

More than anything, Marcy loved gathering the people she cared about - hosting family and friends, cooking for everyone at her table, and never turning down a good concert or a new place to explore. And if you couldn't find her, there was a good chance she was off hunting for the perfect handbag or pair of shoes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Amador and Maria Elena Revelez. She is survived by her brother, Jaime Revelez; her sister, Lisa Thomas; her nephews, Justin and Dereck Thomas; and her godson, Declan Leith. She is also survived by her extended family and friends who became her family in every place she called home.

For all those who loved Marcy, a quote on a placard hanging in her home captured her best: though she be but little, she is fierce. Our fierce, loving Marcy is now at rest.
