Marjorie Ziemer Smith passed away peacefully on February 26, 2015 at Park Springs Cobblestone facility in Stone Mountain, GA at the age of 87. She was born and raised on the family farm in the rural community of Berlin, Wisconsin. She faced adversity early in life, having contracted polio in her teenage years, leaving her right leg paralyzed. After graduating high school in Berlin, she went to a secretarial school in nearby Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She moved to Atlanta in 1952 where she worked for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company until her retirement in 1985. She married William Walton Smith in May 1962 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta where they were active members. Walton passed away in April 2000. Marjorie was a strong, resourceful and resilient woman who met life's challenges head on. She and her husband were avid bridge players with many friends in the Atlanta community. She is survived by her brother in law, Robert Loss- Kenosha, Wisconsin, and nieces and nephews: John Loss- Kansas City, Missouri; James Loss- Laguna Beach, California; Keith Loss- San Diego, California; Robert Olsen- Waukesha, Wisconsin; Susan Olsen- Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and Patricia Olsen- Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Betty (Ziemer) Loss, and Ruth (Ziemer) Olsen. Memorial gifts can be made to her church, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta, or the Arthritis Foundation. Funeral services will be graveside at Floral Hills Memory Garden, 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, Georgia at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 14. A lunch reception celebrating Marjorie's life will be held following the service at Park Springs Community, 500 Springhouse Circle, Stone Mountain at 12:30. A. S.
