Marginny Smith

May 26, 1928 — November 8, 2024

Martha Virginia "Marginny" Smith, aged 96, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away on

November 8, 2024, in Austell, Cobb County, Georgia at Presbyterian Village. Born on

May 26, 1928, Marginny was known for her exuberant personality and great sense of

humor, qualities that endeared her to many throughout her life.

Marginny experienced profound love in her lifetime, being a devoted daughter to her

parents, a devoted wife to Charlie Smith until his early passing, and later a devoted wife

to Henry Reaves. Her marriage to Henry was filled with decades of happiness and zest

during their later years, living at Philips Tower next to the Decatur Presbyterian Church

and walking every day to the small Kroger in the morning and CVS in the afternoon, with

the requisite lunch at Chick-Fil-A. Their union was celebrated and nourished in Decatur

Presbyterian Church, where they met in the New Members Class, were married, and

where Marginny served as a dedicated volunteer.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas; nephew, Bill Edmondson (Julie); niece,

Dyanne; and their extended families. Marginny was predeceased by her parents, Ira

and Vivian Clark, and her sister, Barbara.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 18, at Melwood Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside both Charlie and Henry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Decatur Presbyterian Church, in

recognition of Marginny's many years of faithful service as a volunteer in both the office

and choir. Her legacy of joy and devoted loyalty will be remembered by all who knew

her.
