Marvin Preston Leonard

d. March 3, 2012

Major M. Preston Leonard was born on May 14th, 1932, in Augusta, Georgia. Although raised in the Baptist Church, he and his brother, Everett, became Salvationists at an early age, winning their mother and father to the Army. An outstanding musician, he was invited to play with the Territorial Band, whose members were Salvation Army Officers, at the age of 15. God also blessed him with a lyric tenor voice that he used throughout the Nation, even singing at Royal Albert Hall. Preston entered The Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta, Georgia, a member of the Ambassador Session, and was commissioned on June 4th, 1951. It was during his training that he met Cadet Helen McIntire. They were married in Lakeland, Florida on May 7th, 1955. God richly blessed their lives with five children: Captain David Leonard, Cindy Leonard, Karen Leonard Evans, Kathleen Leonard Yesso and John Mark Leonard. Especially dear to them are the children brought into the family: David's wife Geraldine, Karen's husband Tony, and Kathleen's husband Tony and John Mark's fiancé, Julie. They have eight grandchildren: Angel Reed, David Leonard, Jr., Danny Anglin, Tony Anglin, C.J. Wooten, Justin Proctor, Kaitlin Proctor and Preston Leonard and two great-grandchildren, Charity Abrahamson and Hannah Grace Reed. Finally, he has received the highest promotion known to man. He looked forward to this "Promotion to Glory", anxious to see his beloved Savior and the loved ones who have preceded him. He was serene in the knowledge that his children and grandchildren are walking in the Truth and that someday the circle will again be unbroken. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Salvation Army Atlanta Temple Corps, 2090 N. Druid Hills Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329. A committal service will follow at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers Command, 1424 N. E. Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329. The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, Decatur.
