Mary Ann Powell of Atlanta died peacefully in her sleep October 14, 2022. Mary Ann was born September 18, 1943 in Atlanta, GA to parents, Frances and Francis Powell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, Francis Powell, II. She is survived by her sister, Claire Powell of Decatur, GA; cousins, Ann Clark of North Haven, CT, Alison Clark of St. Augustine Beach, FL, Elizabeth Raccio of Walingford, CT and Melissa O’Connor of Madison, CT.
Mary Ann graduated from St. Pius X High School and received her B.A. in Sociology from Georgia State University. Following her graduation from Georgia State, she began work in social services and became known as a skilled and dedicated trainer. After a career spanning nearly 40 years, she retired from Fulton County Department of Family and Child Services.
Mary Ann loved the beach and was especially happy sharing her beach home with friends and family. She was a stalwart fan of women’s basketball, an avid reader and she enjoyed travel, especially a trip to Ireland with friends and family.
A gathering to celebrate Mary Ann’s life will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of the charity of your choice in memory of Mary Ann Powell. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
