Mary Hogan Hattaway

d. January 1, 1753

Mrs. Mary Hogan Hattaway age 90, of Belva Street, Carrollton passed away early Wednesday morning March 16, 2011. She was born October 18, 1920 in Carrollton, Ga. to the late James H. Hogan and Georgia Ashmore Hogan. Mrs. Hattaway enjoyed a 31 year teaching career beginning in the Kansas Community of Carroll County, later teaching in Sparta and Columbus before ending her career with Avondale High School. She was a long time member of the Clarkston United Methodist Church where she married her late husband William F. Hattaway on September 1, 1946. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Tyre Hogan and a sister Sarah Hogan Kent. Survivors include her sons and daughters in law Tommy and Betty Hattaway and Billy and Wanda Hattaway all of Carrollton, two grandchildren Lisa Hattaway and Travis Wells also surviving are several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 8:00PM, and will receive friends at A. S. Turner and Sons funeral home in Decatur on Friday evening from 4:00 until 8:00PM. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 1:00PM from the Chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons funeral home with Dr. David Poe officiating. Interment will follow in the Melwood Cemetery. Flowers are welcome but memorial contributions be made either to The American Lung Assoc., 2452 Spring Rd. SE, Smyrna, Ga. 30080-3828, The National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1150 17th St. NW, Suite 850, Washington DC, 20036 or your favorite charity.
