Mary Rogers Lee

Mary Rogers Lee, age 79, died Thursday morning, April 7, 2022 in Tucker, Georgia after a long battle with kidney failure. Mary, daughter of John Wesley Rogers and Mary Burton Hines, was born August 28, 1942 in Thomasville, Georgia. Her family moved to Miami, Florida when Mary was a child. Mary loved children and in junior high school began volunteer work with children. In 1960, she graduated from Miami High School where she was active in Future Teachers of America. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia in 1965. Mary received her Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Miami in 1969.  She obtained her Education Specialist in School Psychology from Georgia State University in 1972.  She completed course work at West Georgia College and received her Leadership Certificate in 1992.


Mary began her career teaching sixth grade in the Atlanta Public Schools. She became a school psychologist with Fulton County Schools in 1971. In December 1988 she became the Director of Psychological Services for Fulton County Schools.  She retired from that position January 1, 1999.


Mary lived in Decatur, Georgia, where she raised her children. She was active in All Saint’s Episcopal Church most of her adult life. She served as President of the Atlanta Alumni Club of Georgia College and State University and was an officer on the board for many years.  She loved ballet and always enjoyed the Atlanta Ballet. She was a member of the High Museum of Atlanta.  Mary loved all animals, especially her precious cats.  She was a devoted mother, good friend and neighbor and an inspiration to many.


Mary is survived by her children Michael Rogers Lee and wife Jeana of Roswell, and Kelly Meredith Lee of Fort Collins, Colorado; two grandchildren, Beckham Whitney Lee and Addyson Harper Lee; and her sister, Nancy Scott Rogers of Decatur.


A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta at a later date.
