Matthew Michael Higgins

Listen to Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Michael Higgins. Matt, the beloved son of James and Patricia Higgins of Eatonton, GA, died at his home in Tucker on April 5th, 2026, following ongoing health challenges.

His sister, Kathryn, fondly remembers Matt as the fun-loving little brother who attempted to dig a hole to China in the backyard and believed running fast was the best way to cool off. Enduring memories of his free-spirited childhood...memories that his Anut Margaret corroborates. (Misspell is intentional ;-)

After graduating from the University of Georgia, Matt spent time living in Miami and visited family and ancestral roots in Ireland, Australia, and across the United States. Along the way he developed his love of finance, sharp investing, fishing, and spending time with family. He eventually settled in Tucker and worked as a financial analyst.

An ardent supporter of his niece and nephew, Matt was frequently found pitch side at their soccer matches, a passion rooted in his own youth career with TYSA and St. Pius High School.

His dry humor will be remembered fondly by those whom knew him. He loved the Dawgs, inside jokes, Mellow Mushroom pizza, honesty, and sharing good food with those he loved. He will be missed during holiday gatherings and in the quiet, unexpected moments of daily life.

He valued the simple pleasures, and as a man of few words, his still waters ran deep. The immediate family will remember him at a non-denomination memorial on June 5th at Lake Oconee.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local youth sport club or Inter Atlanta's Financial Aid Fund to support more kids getting access to soccer... or put a little more towards your own dream. Matt's dream was to run an island beachfront hotel - he hopes to see you there in the after.
