Melissa A. Garrett of Atlanta, Georgia was born in LaGrange, Georgia and raised in Avondale Estates, Georgia. She practiced law in Atlanta for thirty-five years, specializing in matters of commercial and residential real estate. Privately she was a staunch supporter of women's issues, an avid student of politics and a voracious reader of nearly every book that crossed her path. Throughout the years she kept in close contact with the many valued friends that she had made during her childhood in Avondale and especially with her fellow members of Avondale High's Class of '65. She continued to take an interest in Avondale's community affairs despite no longer residing there, and in her heart she never really left. She is survived by her husband Reid Garrett, her son Thomas Farrell and his wife Yuki, grandchildren Conner, Lily and Addyson Farrell, her father James DeFreese, her brother James DeFreese, Jr. and his wife Vicki, nephews Donald DeFreese and Ben Schultz and niece Lisa DeFreese Dickson and their families including several great-nieces and -nephews.The family will receive visitors Friday, March 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at A.S.Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033 (tel. no. 404-292-1551).Funeral services will take place at A.S.
