Michael James Day Sr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael James Day Sr., who passed away on July 13, 2026, at the age of 79.

Michael was born on April 1, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Robert Rice Day and Elizabeth Day. He was raised in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. No matter where life took him, from Ohio to Atlanta, Michael proudly considered himself "a kid from Homewood" and often spoke fondly of the community and experiences that shaped the man he became.

Michael was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose infectious laugh, quick wit, and playful sense of humor touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was known for his style, natural charisma, and ability to make people laugh. Always the life of the party, Michael had a way of making everyone feel welcome and left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Michael had a lifelong love of music and singing. Some of his happiest moments were spent simply sitting back, relaxing, and listening to jazz. He also enjoyed spending time fishing and was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan who proudly cheered on his team through every season. Whether he was singing along to a favorite song, enjoying an afternoon of jazz, casting a fishing line, or watching the Steelers play, Michael found joy in life's simple pleasures and in spending time with those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Rice Day and Elizabeth Day; sisters: Bettye (Day) Hunter, Barbara (Day) Banks, Patricia (Day) Copeland, Susan Day, and brother: Eugene Day,

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Janette Day, Cynthia Day-Cohen, William Banks, Kenya Day, Toshi (Day) Pearson, Michael James Day Jr., Maya Day; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as "Pap Pap"; his brothers and sisters: Lois (Day) Williams, Robert A. Day, Sharon Ann (Day) Davidson, Jack Bruce Day, and Carol Ann (Day) Sandidge; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the many wonderful memories Michael leaves behind. His laughter, joyful spirit, love of music, and unwavering love for his family and friends will forever remain in our hearts.
