Michael John Campbell
Born: October 24, 2008 To Infinity and Beyond: December 28, 2023
It is impossible to capture a person like Michael in a few paragraphs. Michael had a personality that could capture any and every heart and lived a life that was bigger than the sky. He was the most beautiful of souls, enduring so much, so innocently.
Michael was born on October 24, 2008, to parents Elizabeth Nicole Snarey Gosa and Michael Jermaine Campbell. He lived most of his life in Decatur, Georgia, where he attended DeKalb County schools, local summer camps, and frequented any restaurant where he could indulge in pizza, chicken nuggets, fries, and rice and beans.
Michael's love for others was palpable. He took every opportunity to give hugs and kisses, shout a big "hi!" and if you were especially lucky-a love slap. He loved to be included in the community and activities around him and influenced the efforts of so many who work to make life for individuals with disabilities and their families meaningful and equitable.
After a 15-year battle against MPS II (Hunter syndrome), Michael's soul hopped on his spaceship and soared to infinity and beyond on December 28, 2023. We like to say he won his battle against Hunter syndrome. Michael fought longer and harder than anyone expected and after completing his earthly mission, is now eternally pain free and wrapped in the arms and comfort of Jesus.
Michael is survived by his parents, Elizabeth Nicole Gosa and Michael Jermaine Campbell, as well as his amazing bonus parents, Edward Gosa IV and Joy Coast. Michael had four parents who loved and cared for him; however, he required it and counted it a blessing.
Michael is also survived by his grandparents, John and Carol Snarey, Michael and Karen Deas, and Deborah Gosa [Edward Gosa III], aunts (Maggie Deas, Danayah Gosa, and Deanna Gosa), uncles (Stephon Deas, Johnny Snarey, Robert Snarey), siblings (Jeremiah Campbell, Chase Campbell, Aiden Campbell, Jada Coast, Jalil Coast, Emani Gosa, Alexis Wallace, and Baby Gosa (coming Summer 2024).
Michael leaves behind countless others who poured their love into his life and who all grieve his absence.
As a family, we would like to thank Michael's medical and educational teams who worked so hard alongside us to love and care for Michael in the exact way his body needed. They excelled at providing patient-centered/family-centered care and for this, we are forever grateful.
