Dr. Michal ("Micky") O'Leary passed away on January 28 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. She remains in the loving memory of her wife Lee, two sons Nathaniel (Conal) and Christopher (Joycelyn) , ex-husband Wayne, brothers Mike and Tim, and as treasured grandmother of Lara and Zach. She is the eldest child of John Francis and Marjorie O'Leary. The extent and impact of her life and love on this earth is impossible to capture.
Micky was known and loved by many for her integrity, strength, and resolve to do the right thing no matter how hard. She practiced a life of service for countless clients at Karuna Counseling and was a source of wisdom and love for the many who were lucky enough to call her wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Driven by a fierce inner light and animated by deep humanity, Micky hails originally from Indiana, where in addition to her parents and brothers she had a sister Susan who predeceased her.
Moving to Georgia after marrying in 1970, Micky went on to raise two boys with her husband Wayne, working as a journalist before deciding to obtain her doctorate in counseling psychology from Georgia State. This was the beginning of a new chapter of service and support that carried her through the remainder of her professional career.
Micky was deeply musical and always had a song on her lips - often made up on the spot - and she instilled this same love of music in her kids. She was a valued member and sister of the Atlanta Women's Chorus. Micky possessed a wry sense of humor and keen intelligence which she used to cut to the heart of a problem or bring comfort and laughter to a friend in their hour of need.
Fondly known as "The Meems" to Lara and Zach, Micky was a constant and loving presence in their lives. She never failed to mark a new year with a pitch perfect rendition of "Happy Birth day" or to respond with warm and endless affection to both the triumphs and the challenges of the two grandchildren she loved so very much.
Micky's relationship with her wife Lee was one of deep respect and profound connection. It was an inspiration and source of love and warmth for everyone in their life.
Micky's memory will remain in the echo of her laughter, the treasured keeping of her wife and sons , and the light of her grandchildren's eyes.
The funeral will take place at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur on February 8 at 3 pm.
