Mildred Fraser Walling

Mildred "Millie" Bruce Fraser Walling passed away September 27, 2026, at Emory University Hospital following a stroke. She was 96.

Millie was born on February 9, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Simon Alexander Fraser and Hazel McConaughy Fraser. Millie attended Girls' High School in Atlanta and earned a B.A. degree from Furman University. She was a lifelong member of Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where she remained active in the Rebekah Circle.

In her younger years, Millie played flute for the Atlanta Symphony, through which she met her husband, Robert "Bob" Walling, then a Georgia Tech student. They married in 1952. Millie was an active volunteer with a number of civic organizations, including the League of Women Voters. As a "Peanut Brigade" member with Jimmy Carter's presidential campaigns, she campaigned in many states, including Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Wisconsin, and was even a guest at the White House. After Bob's death in 2003, she continued to live in their Druid Hills home until 2018.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her son, Bobby Walling; her daughter, Lynne Newton, and her sisters Connie Riddle and Hazel Sims. She is survived by her children Leigh Walling (Joe) and Greg Walling (Robin); five grandchildren, Josh Walling (Meg), Meggie Walling, Fraser Newton (Krystal), A.J. Newton (Julia), and Kathryn Newton; and two great-grandsons, Aidan and Landon Newton, and a great-granddaughter, her namesake Millie Eloise Walling, born September 25, 2026, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends warm thanks to Millie's friends at Clairmont Place in Decatur and to her caregivers, Angie, Mary, and Demi, who helped her to enjoy independent living.
