Nelida Consuelo Pérez (née Blain), age 88, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, in Atlanta, GA. Born on September 3, 1937, in San Cristóbal, Cuba, Nelida immigrated to the United States in 1970, escaping communism and embracing her new American identity with open arms.
Nelida dedicated her life to her family, raising five children who all love God and achieved college educations - a testament to her hard work and sacrifice. Known affectionately as "Abuela" by her grandchildren, Nelida was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was a central figure in her family, famous for her generous Sunday lunches, where she welcomed not just blood relatives, but an extended family of friends and community members to her table.
Professionally, Nelida worked as a seamstress before transitioning to a career in fiber optics, eventually retiring from Lucent Technologies. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on her colleagues and her industry.
Nelida's husband, José Pérez, preceded her in death. She is survived by a loving family, including her children Maria Manahan and husband Russell, Mayra Robertson and husband Bill, Maricel Cohen and husband Mike, Martha Bissell and husband Kelly, and Michael Pérez and wife April; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will miss her deeply.
A visitation will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons on January 3, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a private family graveside service. In her final years, Nelida found joy and companionship at Campbell-Stone Sandy Springs, a senior living community. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Campbell-Stone to honor Nelida's memory and to support the community that cared for her in her later years.
