Nelle H. Cameron

Nelle H. Cameron, 99, of Decatur, Ga., passed away on July 8, 2011 at 2:30PM. A loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, she is survived by her sister, Myrtle Weber; daughters, Sherry Hatcher Green (Jerry Green) and Becky Hardison (Joe Hardison); daughter-in-law Jane Hatcher; eight grand children and 13 great grand children. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles G. Hatcher, Jr. Nelle was a very loving and giving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was born in Bartow, Georgia and always had a strong connection to the people and places of her childhood. She left home in 1931 and entered the University Hospital School of Nursing in Augusta, GA. After graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1934 she held various positions including working at Fort Jackson S.C. during World War II. She spent most of her nursing career working for the VA Hospitals in Columbia S.C. and Atlanta, GA. Her Christian service was an important part of her life. She served as a Deacon at Emory Baptist Church and at Decatur First Baptist Church. She faithfully taught Sunday School at Emory Baptist for 38 years and at Decatur Baptist for 13 years. In 2000 she was chosen as one of the outstanding Sunday School Teachers in Georgia. Nelle had a deep and abiding love for her family. She greatly enjoyed family reunions, visiting with relatives, vacations to the beach with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She freely gave of her love and her wisdom and imparted to us her determination and strength of character. Visitation with family and friends will be at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM this evening (Sunday). Funeral service will be held Monday, July 11th at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Decatur. Internment will be at Bartow Cemetery at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Fund or University Health Care Foundation: Nurses Scholarship Fund, %Sybil Surrett, Suite D-1, 2100 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904 (in memory of Nelle Cameron).
