Listen to Obituary

Nonagene Freeman, 96, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 26, 2026. She was born in Alabama in 1929 to Frank Morrow and Alice Camp Morrow.

Nonagene was a woman of deep and abiding faith and a devoted member of Columbia Presbyterian Church for 70 years. She found great joy in singing "Jesus Loves the Little Children" and volunteering at Vacation Bible School. Her generous spirit was evident in her many years of service, including volunteering with Meals on Wheels and reading with students at her local elementary school.

She had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found gardening, listening to birds, or taking her daily walks, a routine she faithfully maintained as long as her health allowed. She especially enjoyed walking around the lake at Clairmont Place. An avid reader, talented quiltmaker, enthusiastic square dancer, and excellent cook, Nonagene embraced life with warmth and creativity.

Above all, she treasured time with her family and friends. She delighted in visits from her great-grandchildren, often spoiling them with cookies and chocolates. In her later years, she was surrounded by the wonderful community of women at Clairmont Place, whose friendships she deeply cherished.

Nonagene is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Leigh Jackson Freeman, Sr., with whom she shared nearly 70 years of marriage. She is survived by her brother, Bill Morrow of Talladega; her children, Jean Anderson of Decatur and her partner, Joe Winter; Leigh Freeman and his wife, Claudia, of Tucker; and Barbara Givens of Decatur; her grandchildren, Jeremy Givens, Patrick Anderson, Anna Watson, Ashley Freeman, and Mara Golden; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will honor Nonagene at a private family gathering in April.
