Norma McDonald

November 11, 1931 — May 28, 2025

Norma Louise McDonald, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 28th, 2025, at Amicasa Hospice, Decatur, Georgia. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 11, 1931. Norma's parents, Walter and Kathleen Coleman McDonald and her sister, Joyce McDonald Gwinn, preceded her in death.

Norma spent the last five years of her life as a resident of Budd Terrace Nursing Home. She was confined to her bed for most of that time. Norma was kind, soft-spoken and gentle, but also very stubborn. Her favorite thing was reading the Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper every day. Norma had to have her English tea for breakfast. She enjoyed all things British, including British movies, magazines, and books. She especially loved the Royal Family.

Norma had an inquisitive nature and loved learning. She was always full of stories about her younger years when she lived in Los Angeles, California, as well as stories about growing up in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

After many years of working as an office clerk in the wholesale jewelry business, Norma retired at age 65. She was resident of Christian Towers, Decatur, for most of her retirement. Then she moved to assisted living at Coventry Place, Decatur for almost a year before her medical conditions necessitated her moving to Budd Terrace.

Norma, who never married, is survived by her niece, Vicky Gwinn of Grovetown, Georgia, niece Brandy Luckey also of Grovetown, Georgia, and several nephews.

Norma was a long-term member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Decatur. However, due to medical conditions, she was unable to attend mass for the last ten years. A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home has provided cremation services. A mass honoring the life of Norma will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church on June 9, 2025. Norma's cremains will be buried in the same plot with her parents in Chattanooga Memorial Park at a later date.
