Raymond Earl Hickox, age 77, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on May 31, 2025. Born on June 23, 1947, in Lumber City, Georgia, Raymond lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep love for his family, and an enduring curiosity about the world around him.
Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. His time in the service instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline and honor, values that shaped the man he became and passed down to his children.
Raymond was a man of many passions. He had a deep appreciation for classic cars-especially old-school models that reminded him of a different era-and he was an avid student of history. Whether it was a documentary, a book, or a casual conversation, Raymond could often be found sharing insights and stories about the past, always eager to connect history to the present.
He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Violet Lynne Holloway Hickox, and a proud father to four children: Christopher Hickox, of Stockbridge, Georgia; Jennifer Hickox, of Jonesboro, Georgia; Vanessa Hickox, of California; and Nicholas Hickox, of Jonesboro, Georgia. Raymond's love for his family was constant and unwavering-he was their quiet protector, their teacher, and their biggest fan.
A memorial service to celebrate Raymond's life will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025,
at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Ceremony to follow at 2:00 p.m.
Raymond Earl Hickox will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy lives on in the stories he told, the values he instilled, and the family he loved so dearly.
