Reynolds Eugene (Ronnie) Pitts, 94, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He was a resident of Bay County, Florida, until he moved to Decatur, Georgia, on October 17, 2025. 

He graduated from Bay County High School in 1949. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in business administration, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. He served two years in the United States Army. He was employed by International Paper Company for 21 years and by Southwest Forest Industries for three years. After that time, he was employed in the concrete industry in management and sales until he retired at the age of 88. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for most of his life. In his later years he was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club and the Panama City Rotary Club. He enjoyed sailing, fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends on Shell Island. He competed in many sailboat races, traveling to various yacht clubs in the Gulf Yachting Association. When he was older, he loved turning beautiful wooden bowls on his lathe and giving them to family members and friends. Ronnie was known for his willingness to help other people.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Edward Pitts and Corine Davis Pitts; one brother, Bobby Pitts; and one sister, Corinda Pitts Marsh. He is survived by his wife, Jean Culpepper Pitts; two sons, Reynolds Eugene (Ronnie) Pitts, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and John Culpepper Pitts of Panama City, Florida; one brother, Bradley Pitts of Panama City, Florida. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeremy Pridgeon and Rev. Carl Fountain officiating. Those who wish may make a contribution to First United Methodist Church or to Agape Hospice Care.
