Richard Allen Atwood cherished and loved husband, father, and grandfather, passed from this life to the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 18, 2026 after succumbing to complications from a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky on April 8, 1958 to Herman and Mildred Atwood. He graduated from Avondale High School in 1976, and then with a Bachelor's of Music from Georgia Sate in 1982, and with a Master's of Music from Georgia State in 1990 as well. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Judy; son, David Atwood; daughter, Katie Atwood; grandson, Ben Atwood; mother, Mildred Atwood; and sister, Cindy Atwood. He is preceded in death by his father, Herman Alton Atwood, Jr. He spent 30 years teaching instrumental music. He also enjoyed telling stories, watching college football, puppet ministry, gardening, vacationing, and playing the saxophone.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 23, at A.S. Turner and Sons, Decatur, at 12:30pm., viewing at 11:30am. A private burial and service will follow.
