Robert Lorin Hale Jr., 93, of Tucker, Georgia, passed away on July 29, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Smith Hale, his sister, Betty Hale Waters, and his son-in-law, Frank Brumbeloe. He is survived by his daughter, Phoebe Larsen (Hank) of Ruskin, Florida, his son, Charles Andrew "Drew" Hale (Julia) of Atlanta, his four granddaughters – Erin Govednik, Ashley Ottman, Carson Hale, and Anna Hale, and five great grandchildren. Born March 20, 1919, in Decatur, Georgia, Mr. Hale graduated from Decatur Boys' High School and attended Georgia Tech majoring in aeronautical engineering before joining the Army Air Corps. He was a B29 co-pilot in World War II , stationed near Bombay, India. During his military service, he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1985, he retired as vice president of Crenshaw Supply Inc.. His proudest accomplishments at Crenshaw were of having negotiated and supplied much of the underground waterproofing for the construction of Walt Disney World in Orlando and also of having supplied materials for the construction of Buford Dam at Lake Lanier. In his retirement years, he enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a founding member of the Fellowship Class at Decatur First Methodist Church. He will be remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 2, at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
