Robert Matthew "Matt" Wann, 74, passed away on January 19, 2023 in Conyers, GA.
Robert was born on November 26, 1948 at Crawford W. Long Hospital in Atlanta, to Robert E. Wann and Mary Frances Wolfe.
He graduated from Avondale High School in 1968 and went on to attend Atlanta Baptist College (now Mercer Atlanta) majoring in Chemistry from 1968 to 1971. On February 19, 1971, Robert married Myra at Briarlake Baptist Church near Tucker, GA. Robert and Myra had two children R.E. Wann II (Robby) in 1979, and Matthew Clark Wann in 1990.
Never completing his degree, Robert worked at the Phillips Petroleum tank farm in Doraville, GA from 1971 to 1974 until he found his career with AT&T in computers. Eventually, he ended up as mainframe support in his later years with the company, retiring after 39 years in October 2013.
Robert enjoyed photography, astronomy, and road trips with his family. He also was interested in science fiction shows, movies, and literature. A true Southern Gentleman, he was a loving, caring family man who loved the lord and his country.
Robert served as a Cub Scout Webelos leader from 1999 to 2001. Then transitioned to becoming a Boy Scout leader when his son Matthew transitioned from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. He was kind and encouraging to all the scouts and he was extremely proud to be able to encourage and support Matthew earning his Eagle Scout Rank in 2008.
Robert is survived by his wife Myra, of Conyers, son Matthew, of Decatur, and many beloved cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by son Robby, mother Leola Wann, father Robert E. Wann, and birth mother Frances Hirsch.
While his name will be carved on a gravestone for posterity, Robert carved his name on the hearts of his family and friends who will miss him dearly.
The visitation for Robert Wann will be held on Tuesday (1/24) at 6pm at AS Turner and Son Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday (1/25) at 2pm also at AS Turner and Son Funeral Home chapel. A brief committal service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, GA will follow immediately after. Please dress casually (or in whatever you feel appropriate) as Robert would want you to be comfortable.
A donation to the American Kidney Fund may be made in Robert's name, or flowers will be appreciated.
