Robert R. Durfield III, 83, of Stone Mountain, GA, passed away on February 1, 2024, after a brief illness.
Robert was born on November 14, 1940, to Robert and Annie Durfield in Birmingham, AL. After Robert graduated from Shades Crest High School in 1959, he studied at Jacksonville State University before beginning a forty-one-year career in the electrical contracting industry. He was a successful project manager for several electrical contracting firms in Birmingham, AL, Columbia, S.C., and Atlanta, GA, and he managed many large construction projects throughout the south.
In 1963, Robert met Faye Deaver through work associates, and in 1967, they were married on April 15th. Robert and Faye were wonderful parents to two sons, Mark and Paul (Julie). Paul and Julie Durfield raised four beloved Grandsons: 2LT Hudson Durfield (Heather), Heath Durfield, Colter Durfield, and Jeremiah Durfield.
In 2003, Robert retired and spent his time fishing and serving people from the church, always generous with his time and skills.
Robert was an active member of Tucker Presbyterian Church, serving in many ways. He made many friends who remained by his side until he entered eternity. His sense of humor will always be remembered as bringing joy to everyone he encountered.
As an avid bass fisherman, Robert loved spending his spare time on area lakes such as Lake Oconee, West Point Lake, Lake Lanier, and his all-time favorite, Lake Seminole in southwest Georgia. Many family trips were enjoyed at Seminole State Park near Donaldsonville, GA. He loved sharing his passion for fishing with friends and was very generous with donations of fishing tackle to friends, family, and often strangers.
Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents.
