Robert Thorpe

Robert Benjamin Thorpe III, 54, passed away on October 18, 2025, in Decatur, Georgia, after a brief illness. Born in Gainesville, Georgia, to Robert Thorpe, Jr. and and the late Linda Thorpe, Robert was a life-long resident of Georgia and fan of the Falcons and Atlanta United.

He was the beloved husband of Wendy Reynaud Thorpe and a proud father to Ethan Benjamin, Harper Sophia, and Samuel Owen. His children were his greatest source of pride, and he always encouraged their artistic pursuits. He shared close bonds with his siblings: Kim Carithers, Kerry (Cassandra) Butts, Greg (Christi) Smith, Apryl (OJ) Gates, Stephanie (Demond) Jones, Chris (Michelle) Thorpe, and Anthony Thorpe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Derek Butts.

Through marriage, Robert became a valued member of the Reynaud family. He is fondly remembered by his mother-in-law Helena Reynaud; sister-in-law Michelle (Phil) Cantor; and brothers-in-law Wesley (Julie) Reynaud and Shane (Magdalena) Reynaud. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law Denny Reynaud, and sister-in-law Shannon Reynaud.

Robert enjoyed photography, cooking, and sending silly TikTok's to his nieces. Despite his wife being an excellent Cajun cook, his favorite home-cooked meal was her from-scratch cheese enchiladas, Mexican rice and refried beans. He enjoyed his fantasy football league and is still on track to beat his brother-in-law again this year. Some might remember his time as a member of the 80's Gainesville dance group "Smooth Edition." He was also a known "deviled egg" bandit, stealing more than his share at any holiday gathering.

A visitation will be held on October 23, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur. A memorial service will take place on October 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 636 W. Ponce de Leon Ave.
