ROBIN LYNN WHITEHEAD
FEBRUARY 25, 1958 – May 10, 2016
Robin Lynn Whitehead passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday May 10th, 2016 at the age of 58. Robin was born in Albertville, Alabama on February 25, 1958 to Robert and Ruth Gray Whitehead. He was close to his family, including his parents, his siblings, and his adored grandparents, Elzie and Grace Gray, who lived next door. Robin was a proud member of his church and community, and in 1972 was awarded'Outstanding Service in Stimulating Better Citizenship 'by the Civitan Club of Asbury. As a young man, Robin loved sports and played on his high school baseball and basketball teams. He was an exceptional student with a charisma that stood out and helped him win a scholarship to attend Birmingham Southern College in the Fall of 1976.
Robin excelled at Birmingham Southern. He became a brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and participated in intramural sports and activities. He developed a lifelong love for Alabama football when he attended games at Legion Field and made many close friends. Robin also had a passion for horses and traveled the country showing them competitively. In 1987 he won the Solid Gold Futurity competition with his paint horse Sunday Jay T. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Economics in 1980.
After college Robin found his gift as a salesman for Hewlett Packard. As most people said, he could "sell ice to an eskimo" and between 1984 and 2009 he was honored in the HP Achievers Club (top 5% in the world) 17 times and a 4 time honoree of the HP CEO Club (top 1% in the world). One of his proudest moments at HP was being tapped to give a speech at the 2008 United Nations Summit in New York. He retired in 2009 but decided in 2015 that he was not quite finished with his superstar career and returned officially at the beginning 2016.
But Robin's greatest passion was his children. He spent many afternoons with son Alan and an extended group of friends at Summit Chase Country Club. He was extremely devoted to his eldest daughter Lucy, often hanging out at the Avondale Pizza Cafe while she worked. And he delighted in the love of singing that he shared with his middle child Anna Grace. A master storyteller in the greatest southern tradition, he shared many outlandish stories and took them on many sweet adventures.
In addition to his three children, Robin is survived by his siblings Elzie, Chris and Rickey Whitehead and Joy Gaver and his many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly: Jodi, Nick, Joey, Cody, Jacob, Jessica, and Jordan. He is preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet visitors on Saturday, May 14th from 1:30 - 3:00 at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, Georgia, followed by a service in the chapel there at 3:00. An additional service will be held in Asbury, Alabama on Sunday, May 15th at 2:00 pm CST.
