Ronald J. Atkins, born January 12, 1943, passed away on April 4, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, May Atkins and Donald R. Atkins, and by his sister, Sharyn Sanchez.
He is lovingly remembered by his niece, Kelly Lebian, and her son, Peter Vallejos, and his wife, Kimberly Vallejos; his niece, Kimberly Moya, and her husband, Larry Moya; their children, Larry Jr. Moya and Melissa Moya; numerous great-great-nieces and nephews; and many friends, former students and colleagues who were fortunate to know him.
A devoted educator, Ronald spent many years teaching English, drama, and speech, inspiring countless students through his love of theatre and the arts. He directed plays and musicals, led fine arts programs, and encouraged young people to find their voice and confidence both on and off the stage. His influence reached schools across Texas, New Mexico, and California, where he was respected not only as a teacher, but also as a mentor and leader.
Ronald earned a Master of Arts in Theatre from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico, building the foundation for a lifelong dedication to education and creativity.
In his later years, Ronald found great joy working at The Colonnade restaurant in Atlanta, where he formed meaningful friendships with colleagues and loyal customers alike. It was a place that brought him happiness and connection, and where his warm spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Ronald will be remembered for his kindness, steady guidance, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of his students, colleagues, friends, and family. His legacy lives on in every life he touched.
In lieu of services his wishes are to be spread amongst the Manzano Mountains. His Happy Place
