Rosemary Devine

December 17, 1943 — May 8, 2025

Rosemary T. Devine, 81, passed away May 8, 2025, in Decatur, Georgia, surrounded by her family.

Rosemary was born December 17, 1943, in South Boston, the youngest of three daughters of the late James and Ethel (Kennedy) Regan. After graduating from South Boston High School in 1961, she attended Quincy City School of Nursing on a full scholarship from the Girls Club of America where she earned her bachelor's degree in nursing in 1964. Rosemary was a registered nurse for almost 25 years and worked at Boston City Hospital, Quincy Hospital in Boston, and Northside Hospital in Atlanta. She specialized in labor and delivery, postpartum care (caring for new mothers) and also taught childbirth classes.

While attending Quincy City School of Nursing, she met Thomas Devine, who was her devoted and loving husband of nearly 60 years. The couple had three children, Jean, Shawn, and Eric and made their home in several states before they retired in South Carolina. In October 2024, they moved to a Senior Living Community in Decatur, GA.

Rosemary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was committed to her husband, three children and her five grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake for them and was always supportive in their endeavors. She was Catholic and instilled that faith in her children as well.

She loved telling family stories and enjoyed talking with everyone. Rosemary's compassionate nature was something people seemed to sense, and this drew people to her. Even the manager of the meat department at the grocery store felt safe opening up to her.

Rosemary was a night owl, she loved coffee, playing Bridge, Scrabble and other board games, watching BritBox and Acorn TV, talking politics, scrapbooking, swimming, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Above all, she loved her family and husband, Tom. She will be missed dearly by those who loved her.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Regan, her sister, Patricia O'Sullivan and brother-in-law Kevin O'Sullivan, and nephew James Scott Dolan.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Devine; her sister, Sis Dolan (Jim) of Raynham, MA; her children, Jean Benedikt (Craig) of Clayton, GA; Shawn Devine (Sarah Gleim) of Decatur, GA; Eric Devine of Simpsonville, S.C.; and her grandchildren Ryan Benedikt, Kara Devine, Sarah Devine, Zoe Devine, and Bridget Cunningham.

The family asks that for those who wish to, please consider making a memorial donation to the Boys and Girls Club of America or Meals on Wheels.
