Sarah Carolyn Hardy Crumbley

Advocate for Family, Faith & Fellowship

Born in Lincolnton, Georgia on October 6, 1926 to parents Thomas and Lucy Hardy, the only child of an industrious farmer and mechanic and devoted wife and amazing cook. Known lovingly to her friends and family as Carolyn, Sarah, Momma, Mimi, and Pete, she was never far away from a warm greeting or a welcomed reunion.

Carolyn Hardy moved to Atlanta while still in grammar school, graduating from Girls High School. She married on the 4th of July, 1944 to George P. Crumbley, Jr., who worked for WSB TV and Radio Group and subsequently started and managed the Crumbley Advertising Agency, which later became Crumbley & Associates. They were married for 65 years before his death in 2009. Carolyn and George had two children, a daughter Cheryl who survives her and a son Thomas who died in 2003. She remained a resident of Decatur, Georgia until her death on May 27, 2026.

Active in community and civic affairs, her focus was family, community and charitable service. As the first woman to be named director of the Decatur-DeKalb Family YMCA, she was recognized for her leadership skill and volunteerism. She also served as president of the Toney Elementary PTA and held almost every office in the Victoria Estates Garden Club. Carolyn Crumbley led the Atlanta Lioness Club, and was instrumental in broadening its outreach in support of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, benefiting the visually impaired. More recently she served as a member of the Atlanta Lions Club working to expand the vision and hearing services of the Lighthouse Foundation through education, detection, prevention and treatment.

Carolyn Crumbley's love for family and friends was reflected over the years by her active travels and involvement with Lions International as well as the Peach Bowl (now Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl) which was founded by her late husband, George. Through those shared commitments and community service, she developed strong and lasting friendships around the world. And she maintained contact with childhood friends through the formation of the Kirkwood Girls - all girls from her Kirkwood neighborhood who met regularly for over 60 years.

She spoke humbly about her life though she nurtured life-long friendships, experiencing cultures and laughter around the world. To her, these were not the memories of anything extraordinary - which only makes it more so.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Dan Lee of Asheville and Atlanta; granddaughter Stephanie O'Neal, her husband Matt Jabloner, and great-grandson Reilly Thomas Comtois all of Seattle; grandson Josh Crumbley and his wife Lisa O'Berry Crumbley of St. Simons Island; and many cherished family members and loved ones.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 3-5 pm at A.S.Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Road, in Decatur. A memorial service will be held for Carolyn Crumbley on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11 am, also at A.S.Turner & Sons. Interment will be held at Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, 5582 Peachtree Road, Chamblee, GA 30341 or to your favorite charity in her honor.
