Soren Abel Quigley

With deepest joy and sorrow, Jennifer Quigley and Soren Hessler share the birth of our son, Soren Abel Quigley, on August 8, 2026. He returned to his creator on August 21, 2026. Little Soren was a gift to his parents, and we are so proud of him. Soren did a lot in 13 days of life. He arrived with a bang at 25 weeks and 1 day of gestation breathing on his own, shocking the neonatal team, and everything else was on his terms and timeline too. Everyone in the NICU loved him and called him feisty. We learned so much about his strong, stubborn personality: he swung his arms and kicked his feet, including at the nurses, and he loved to sleep with his hands tucked behind his head and his feet stretched out past the end of the bed. He had very, very long limbs, fingers, and toes. Mom and Dad think he was probably going to top 6 feet. His constant companion in the incubator was Octavius the crochet octopus, and he would pull on Octavius's legs as an alternative to pulling on his wires. Mom and Dad are so grateful to have been able to hold him, change his diapers, give him baths, and spend many hours with him. We are grateful that so many people loved and prayed for Soren even though they couldn't meet him. We are most grateful for and proud of our last night with him. When he took a sudden turn for the worse, we were able to baptize him, journey with him from Emory Decatur Hospital to Children's Hospital of Atlanta, and be with him, holding him and snuggling him until he peacefully passed in our arms. He opened his eyes and recognized us when we each held him the last time. He is always our son, and we are so lucky to always be his parents. We know we will be reunited with him someday. Our time with him has brought us so much deep joy.

A memorial service for Soren Abel Quigley will be held at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, 1660 N Decatur Rd, Atlanta, GA 30307, at 1pm on Friday, August 28, 2026. Another memorial service will be held at Boston University's Marsh Chapel, 735 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA 02215, at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
