Teressa Rutland Sanders

November 12, 1926 — September 20, 2007

Teressa Rutland Sanders (Tissy), a lifelong resident of Decatur Georgia, died Wednesday evening September 20, 2007 following a cerebral hemorrhage. Born November 12, 1926 in Greenville, Georgia to parents Mary Alice and Guy W. Rutland Sr., she was the loving wife of Decatur physician, Dr. Floyd R. Sanders Jr. They celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary in August at Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Georgia, where they had recently moved. As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur, she served as deacon and was a member of the Joy Bible Class. She was a member of the DeKalb County Junior League, Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the DeKalb County Medical Auxiliary for which she served a president.  Tissy was an accomplished artist, an avid reader and loved animals. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College.  She is survived by two children, daughter, T. Irene Sanders of Washington, DC and son, Dr. F. Stuart Sanders and daughter-in-law Lynne Whittemore Sanders of Clarkesville, GA; and three beloved grandchildren, Carson, Amanda and Jordan Sanders. Family visitation, Sunday September 23, 2007 1:30-3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Decatur (Carreker Hall) with the funeral following in the sanctuary at 3:30 pm. Interment in Decatur Cemetery.
