Mrs. Thelma Marlene Miller Barnes, 78, of Tucker died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, after a



brief illness. Marlene, also known as "Tootsie" by friends and family, was born in Atlanta on July 30, 1931 to Guy and Thelma Miller. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Girls High. She met her husband, Bill Barnes, a Wake Forest student, while attending Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, N.C. They married in 1951 and moved to Atlanta to make their home. In addition to being a homemaker, Marlene worked at the George Muse Clothing Company for several years and for the past twenty two years enjoyed serving as a volunteer and board member with the DeKalb Volunteer Auxiliary at DeKalb Medical. She was also a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Barnes. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Mark White of Norcross, son, Ruffin Barnes and daughter-in-law, Dawn Wagner-Barnes of Dallas, GA, and grandchildren, Emily White and Will, Kristina and Kelly Barnes. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 3:00p.m. with Reverend Louis Miller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
