Thelma Squires

Thelma Maizelle Squires, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, May 14, 2024, at the age of 100.

Thelma was born on July 15, 1923, in Edgefield, SC and daughter to the late Alma and Walter Morgan. For over 46 years, she was the beloved wife of Cecil Paul Squires until his death on October 27, 1997. Since then, she has lived independently at the same house, keeping active and busy at Peachtree Baptist Church, reading the Bible daily and many other books, visiting with neighbors and friends, running daily errands, and staying current with her family and relative's activities.

Thelma was a devoted/loving/caring mother of Cecil Paul Squires, Jr. (Yoli) and David Craig Squires, and grandmother of Matthew Paul Squires.

Thelma is predeceased by all seven of her brothers and sisters: Eileen Millburg (Harvey), Carolyn Herlong (Skeebo), Charles Morgan (Phyllis), Edgar Morgan (Rose), J.B. Morgan (Faye), Claude Morgan (Lib), and Beatrice Covar (George). She equally loved and was very proud of all her nieces and nephews, along with their families.

The family wishes to thank two special people: Claire Janas, for being such a good friend to our mother for over 40 years, also acting unselfishly as a caregiver for her these last few years. We would also like to thank Charles Peppers for being a good family friend for many years and helping our mother.

On Monday, May 20, 2024 a service will be held at the A. S. Turner & Sons onsite chapel, starting at 1:00 PM (family and friends will be welcomed one hour before the service), followed shortly after by a burial service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, beginning at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peachtree Baptist Church, 2108 Briarcliff Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.
