Tommy Frank Satterfield, 99, of Atlanta, GA, went to be with his Lord on June 20, 2026. He was born to the late Grover Cleveland Satterfield and Bessie Mae Christian Satterfield on November 19, 1926, in Dahlonega, GA.
He graduated from Lumpkin County High School and enrolled at North Georgia College, where he studied business administration and served as a student leader in ROTC. World War II paused his studies, and he left Dahlonega with his fellow Cadets for the United States Army and the Philippines. He returned to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1948 and then remained to teach Business Administration. After some time teaching, he decided that he needed real world business experience to draw on and moved to Toccoa, GA, to work at Letourneaux-Westinghouse (WABCO). It was in Toccoa that he met and married Linda Williams Satterfield, his love and companion through 60 years of marriage. In 1966 he joined the staff of Wesley Woods in Atlanta, working in the area of finance and development. This venture became his professional calling as he helped build and manage Wesley Woods and its many associated properties in North Georgia. He served in the Army Reserve for many years, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1970. He also served in state and national leadership roles in the Healthcare Financial Management Association, earning its lifetime achievement award in 1986. He was known for the excellence and integrity of his work, commitment to his organizations and employees, breadth of knowledge and experience, and willingness to bring his expertise to bear in any needed capacity. In 1982 he fulfilled his long-time wish to obtain a Masters in Business Administration by completing the then-new Executive MBA program at Georgia State University. After retiring from Wesley Woods, Tom saw the second half of that dream come to fruition, returning to teaching as an adjunct professor in the Business School at Georgia State for eight years. Tom was a faithful deacon, committee member, and teacher at his beloved Briarlake Baptist Church, whose services he rarely missed in person or livestream. Tom took pride in both his rural north Georgia roots and in helping his beloved Atlanta grow into the dynamic, inclusive city it is today. He was an avid reader and book collector and enjoyed traveling to visit renowned world sites, locally famous lighthouses, and his adored grandchildren.
Tom was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all. He loved the Lord and others well. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Linda; daughter, Mary Ellen Meurer and her husband, Bill; daughter, Sharon Pegram and her husband Ivan; grandchildren, Kjell and Lillian Meurer and Duncan Pegram; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27,2026, at Briarlake Baptist Church chapel, 3715 Lavista Rd, Decatur, Georgia, 30033. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at Briarlake chapel. The service will be officiated by Reverend Larry Sullivan and Reverend John Dallas.
