Virgil Marion Ray, age 94, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012. He was born February 23, 1918 in Mayo, Florida and lived his early years in Lake Wales, Florida. He moved with his family to the Atlanta Area in 1936. He served in the 767th field artillery in Europe during World War II. He married Emma in June 1944. He worked at Dutch Oven Bakery and retired from Atlanta Dairies. After retirement, he had a part time job at Decatur DeKalb Newspaper and his favorite was time he spent working and playing golf at Little Mountain Golf Course in Ellenwood. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Emma Lou Wiggins Ray, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Rock of Dacula, Marion and Roy Edwards of Conyers; grandson, Troy and Beth Hopper of Cartersville; great grandson, Everett Hopper of Cartersville; sisters, Marie Denton of Ellenwood, Maudlin Stallings of Douglasville, Barbara Walker of Dacula; aunt, Nora Parnell of Miami, Fl, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonzie and Lula Ray, brother, Ellis (Buck) Ray, sister, Vera Adams, son-in-law, E.S. Hopper Jr., and nephew, Roy Stallings Jr. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00PM in the chapel of A.S. Turner and sons with Rev. Fred Plate and Rev. Fred Downing officiating. Flowers will be accepted or contributions maybe made the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 South Columbia Drive, Decatur, Ga 30030. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.
