Listen to Obituary

Virginia "VA" Lowe Rice, age 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in her home at Clairmont Place, Decatur, Georgia. She was born on November 27, 1930 in Austell, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas Aaron Lowe and Mary Jeannette Lee Lowe; her husband, The Rev. Dr. H. Dan Rice; son, Allen Rice; daughter, Nancy Goldoni; sisters, Doris Crowder, Mary Jo Maddox, and Fay Gresham Errico; brothers, Harold Lowe, Jim Lowe, and Bobby Lowe.

She is survived by her daughters: Deborah Parker (Hank) of LaGrange, Georgia, and Judy Hohn (Mike) of Canton, Georgia; Son-in-law, Frank A. Goldoni of Wesley Chapel, Florida; grandchildren, Lauren Goldoni (Marilee), Frank D. Goldoni, West Hohn, Kate Hohn, and Brent Hohn. And many nieces and nephews.

Upon her graduation from high school in Austell, Virginia attended a business school in Atlanta, held various administrative positions, and then met her husband, Dan. They were the first couple to be married at Austell First United Methodist Church where she attended. Throughout their 59 years together, in addition to raising their four children, she supported Dan throughout his various pastoral appointments within the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church until his retirement in December 2008. Her most notable career achievement was her many years spent as the Membership Secretary for Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

Virginia devoted her life to her faith, family, friends and fellowship. Her greatest passion was being outdoors with sunshine, blue skies, white puffy clouds, trees, plants, flowers and "diggin' in the dirt!" She adored "her game shows" Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, word search books, playing bingo with the Clairmont Place community, and cheering for the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs at every opportunity.

Private family graveside services will take place at a future date at Oak Grove UMC in Decatur, Georgia, and another in Elberton, Georgia.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory will be welcomed by Oak Grove United Methodist Church as well as the Hinton Rural Life Center
