William "Bill" M Carpenter, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2022, at his home in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Bill was born on May 27, 1931, in Clear Spring, MD where he was the 2nd of 13 children. He was the son of the late Frank Milton and Ruth Naomi (Gruber) Carpenter. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by six brothers, Conrad, James, Verdon, Frank, Phillip, and John Carpenter. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Doris M. (Younker) Carpenter. He was the devoted father of 3 children, a daughter, Wanda Galanti, and two sons, William Jr., and Troy Carpenter. He was also blessed with five grandchildren, Matthew, Kevin, Mari Kathrine, Daniel and Bradley, and beloved uncle to 35 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother, Robert A. "Bob" Carpenter (Linda), and 5 sisters, Flora M. "Peg" Holland, Nancy L. Zimmerman, Sally R. Shepley, Elizabeth, "Sugar" Ross, and Amy "Cookie" Snyder. Bill was a veteran of the Korean War and served four years in the U.S. Airforce as a radio maintenance/operator with service in the Philippines, Korea, Guam, Okinawa, and Johnson Atoll with the 2nd Air Rescue Squadron. After his military service Bill started Capitol Drilling, Blasting, and Explosives while pursuing his passions for flying and golf. Although Bill was a successful businessman, the center of Bill's life was his devotion to his family and loyalty to his many friends. He will be sorely missed, as his life was blessed, and fond memories of him will continue.
