Dr. William Ronald Luckie, 78 years old of Decatur, Georgia, passed away on August 25, 2012. The memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, August 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Decatur. Julie Pennington-Russell and Peter Rhea Jones will officiate the service. Family will receive visitors at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary prior to the service. Ron was born in Sylacauga, Alabama, the son of late Reverend William and Mamie Luckie on November 11, 1933. He married Mary Moncrief Luckie on August 19, 1955 in Mobile, Alabama. As a life-long educator, Ron taught for 57 years in primary and secondary schools and fulfilled administrative positions throughout the Southeast. He continued his love for teaching as a study skills instructor after his retirement in 1994. Over the years, Ron was a loved mentor and leader who will be remembered through the lives he changed and the dreams he inspired. He was an avid fly fishermen and world traveler. One of his proudest accomplishments was having fished all fifty states and six of the continents. Ron is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Moncrief Luckie; Brother, Douglas Anderson Luckie; Sister in Law, Mary Louise Luckie; Son, Ronald Gregory Luckie; Daughter, Tonja Luckie Hitchcock; Son-in-law, Cary Brand Hitchcock, Sr.; Grandchildren, Cary Brand Hitchcock, Jr. and Callie Lynn Hitchcock and many nieces and nephews.
