Wilmer E. Dowd

Mr. Wilmer E. Dowd, a life long resident of Decatur passed away Thursday, August 16, 2007.   He was a decorated veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired Produce Manager for Alterman Brothers.   He is survived by his sons, Mr. Jimmy Dowd, Mr. Billy Dowd and wife Debbie, Mr. Chuck Wellborn and wife Lesley Troops; daughters, Mrs. Brenda Heath and husband Miles, and Mrs. Sandra Smith and husband Tony; brothers, Mr. Edward Dowd, and Mr. Buddy Dowd; sisters, Mrs. Tommie Walker, Mrs. Polly Herndon, Mrs. Ruby Mobley, Mrs. Carolyn Mobley and Mrs. JoAnn Carraway; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 18th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons.  Rev. Elmer Carraway will officiate.  Interment Melwood Cemetery.  Those desiring may send contributions to the Arthritis Foundation, 550 Pharr Rd., Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30305-3432.   The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
