Dr. Young Kim

Dr. Young Hwa Kim, a beloved professor, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on January 12, 1938, in Korea, he lived a life marked by humility, dedication, hard work, and a love for learning and teaching.

Dr. Kim graduated from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, with a bachelor's degree in Business Management. In 1973, he immigrated to the United States, where he earned both his Master's and Ph.D. from Georgia State University. His academic journey culminated in a distinguished 42-year career as a professor at Clark Atlanta University's School of Business, where he began teaching in 1983 and continued until his retirement in 2025. Known for his commitment to his students and his field, Dr. Kim was widely respected for his expertise, selflessness, and determination.

In his younger years, Dr. Kim found joy in singing the aria E lucevan le stelle from Puccini's Tosca, a reflection of his appreciation for beauty and art. He enjoyed fishing, the Florida Gulf Coast, and watching soccer in his spare time.

Dr. Kim is survived by his son, Edward Kim; his daughter, Michelle Powers; his grandchildren, Olivia Powers and Thomas Powers; his brother, Yeong Woo Kim; and his sisters, Young Ja Kim and Young Hee Kim. He was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Kim; his parents, He Ryong Kim and Je Ryan Ahn; his brothers, Young Tae Kim and Young Hyun Kim; and his sister, Young Lim Kim.

Dr. Kim's legacy of kindness, wisdom, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless students he inspired.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, located at 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033, beginning at 11:00 AM, with a viewing at 10:00 AM.
